The MXHandStand
The long story of how this stand came to be can be read by clicking here. That tells you about the physical stand and what it took to bring it to market. On this page we will share with you what and why we did what we did with regard to the marketing aspect. So, once the product design was completed, we needed a name for it. The obvious name to me was the 'HandStand'. Why? Because you use your hand to lift your bike up onto it. A quick search revealed that the domain 'www.handstand.com' had already been purchased. When I checked, it turns out It is owned by a company that is just holding it to sell at a later date. (It won't be to me though as when I contacted them, they wanted $40,0000 for it!)

The next logical name (to me anyway!) was 'MXHandStand' since the stand was built for MX bikes. Let's be honest, even off-road bikes are based on MX bikes. Anyway, this seemed like a good name all the way around, a decent compramise for sure and the domain was available! I am sure that folks will shorten it up and call it the 'HandStand', but that shouldn't be a problem as I am sure that web searches for 'Hand Stand' will still bring up this website. (While the site is up and running but brand new so there is no way to tell right now.) All printed literature will have the full name 'MXHandStand' so hopefully that will be what folks remember.

Once name was settled on, we began working on a logo. We wanted to create something that was simple, easy to read and used standard colors, nothing too off-beat. It still had to be distinctive and easy to read in a small format, say on a sticker on the stand. Below is the final product for a logo.

Now that we had a logo, we could move forward with the website itself. Confession time. We really prefer a fairly simple website. Simple does not mean it cannot be classy or attention worthy. Often the prettiest things are the simplest. Flash intro's with sounds and music and so on just aren't what we want to see when viewing a site, so why would we want them on our own website? We all prefer a simple, easy to navigate site that is gentle to the eyes, but still somewhat catchy.

Make the best of what you have and go with it. Click on the image below to go and visit the website.
